there's gotta be no better way to celebrate a monday than with some sunshine, am i right? what, you don't feel sunshine-y about mondays? it's okay, i've been there before. lately i've got sunshine coming out of my...ahem, you know the saying...so i'm feeling happy no matter what day of the week it is. huge shout out to caitlin and allison for nominating me for the sunshine award. i know that some people find these annoying but i love reading more about people and sharing more random facts, so i'm always super excited to be nominated for any type of survey style award. thanks ladies! rather than overwhelm you with a billion things i just picked a few of their questions. we all know i get wordy enough without trying to answer 20 questions.
1. what is the last book you read?
i've made it a goal to start reading more and i am doing so like a champ. i'm currently reading the jo nesbo/harry hole series which is a norwegian detective series. i heard it was kind of like girl with the dragon tattoo and it's not quite that good (definitely not as graphic though which is kind of nice), but i'm enjoying it. i love mystery novels. i'm also listening to shatter me by tahereh mafi on mary's recommendation and i'm loving it. i love a good dystopian novel and basically anything mary recommends. there's a reason she's gonna be a professor.
2. who is your role model?
i have so many, but i'll just include my family. my teaching role models are my oldest brother sean and tex - their passion and dedication inspire me daily and make me want to be a better teacher. my running role model is my dad - he's taught me that even if you're not the fastest, you're still a runner. my mom has taught me how to be an amazing hostess and how important it is to be independent but still be able to lean on others. my younger brother liam teaches me daily not to take life so seriously and my brother tim has taught me how to be a good listener, a great sister and an even better friend. sigh. i love my family.
3. how many places have you lived?
i've lived in the suburbs of chicago, northwest indiana (on the beach!), various dorms in williamsburg, VA, a couple apartments in chicago while i was in grad school, a house in virginia, an apartment in virginia and now texas! i'm hoping to be in texas for a good long while because frankly, i'm tired of moving.
4. where is your favorite place on earth?
disneyworld! no, actually, i haven't been there in years and it's not even close. my mom has this coffee mug that is a picture of a mom holding a baby and it says, "my favorite place is right here, inside your hug" and i think it's just the cutest thing ever and also true - hugs are the best places. i think we're speaking more in terms of actual physical places though so i'd have to go with my parent's house in indiana. there's nothing like a sunset over lake michigan.
5. if you could only choose one - guac, salsa or queso?
oh my GOD allison, this is like sophie's choice. i guess i would choose guac because i can foresee the most applications of it, but i think if i had to eat one meal for the rest of my life it would be chips and queso so i don't want queso to feel like i'm abandoning it. however, nothing like guac on all the things. #addavocado
6. what is your proudest fitness moment?
immediately, finishing the chicago marathon comes to mind because it seems like that SHOULD be my proudest fitness moment, and it's definitely up there. however, i really like when i'm doing a workout in the gym and someone comes up to me and tells me that i look like i'm working hard or that my workout is intense. this happens mostly when i visit my parents at their fitness center because it's an older community and pretty much people go there to socialize while riding recumbent bikes, but still. it makes me feel like a bad ass. i'm all about external validation, no shame.
7. how do you eat an oreo cookie?
always always always in milk. to me, oreos don't exist without a cup of cold milk. i dip half, let it soak til it's supa soft, eat that half and then try to dip as much of the remaining cookie as possible into the milk without it breaking. it usually breaks. oh and the only other way to eat it is in cookies and cream brownies from sally. make them. now.
8. what is your smell?
rain! i love the way the world smells right after it rains, all wet and clean.
9. what is your favorite and most important grocery staple?
i go through MASSIVE food ruts, but i'd say overall i rarely ever leave the grocery store without: a big tub of greens, almond milk, greek yogurt and several varieties of cheese. produce is kind of cyclical but i typically end up with tomatoes and apples in my cart as well.
10. what is the best thing you've ever cooked?
this probably doesn't count since i baked it, but hands down the birthday cake i made for my birthday this year. two layers of chai tea cake and one layer of almond sponge cake with coconut buttercream and toasted coconut on the outside. isn't she gorgeous? a very close second goes to the birthday cake i made for richard a few years ago which was a pistachio petit four cake with fudge buttercream and marzipan that was out of this WORLD.
alright, if you made it through that, now i've got to come up with ten questions. i'm terrible at this, but if we were having coffee right now
1. what's your favorite back to school memory?
2. do you still stalk your first crush on facebook?
3. what's your favorite way to get physical (keep it pg, i mean exercise)?
4. if you had to pick one genre of music to listen to for life, what would it be?
5. what's one thing you'll spend ridiculous amounts of money on BESIDES running/exercise gear?
6. nsync, backstreet boys, 98* or otown? (yes, those are all legit options, no shame ashley angel fans)
7. if your life were a soap opera, what would it be called?
8. name one small thing that brightens your day no matter what your mood is.
9. have you ever dyed your hair? regret it or best choice ever?
10. do, date, or dump - the men of dawson's creek: dawson, pacey, jack.
and my nominees! if you've been nominated already, sorry. if you don't like surveys, sorry i'm not sorry. if i didn't nominate you it's not because i don't love you but because my memory sucks or because i saw you already did the survey. i'm tired of copping out and not nominating people because it always makes me smile when i get a nod :)
