i got to the doc a little before my appointment time, filled out some paperwork and waited. they called me back and i saw a nurse then waited about ten minutes for the doctor to come in. we chatted a bit, he asked me about my pain level, felt around my foot a little bit and then ordered an x-ray. i waited kind of a long time for the x-ray but it came back really quickly so overall the whole appointment was probably only about 45 minutes. as for my x-ray...it looked like this:
my doc read the x-rays with me and told me that it's not a stress fracture (YAY!), though he said he knew that pretty much right away based on where my pain was. i do have an inflamed joint in my first metatarsal (aka my big toe) that he said is likely due to "running so much". he prescribed me some steroids to take for six days to deal with the inflammation and told me two weeks off workouts should get me back to normal. my cvs didn't have the meds in stock so i'll be picking those up and starting them tomorrow. if i know anything about how steroids work, i imagine that this two weeks off will be counteracted by the juice and i'll be super buff come the end of february. right? that's sound science.
(jacked. right.)
as for how i'm feeling...it's a week longer than i was hoping for but several weeks shorter than i was dreading. am i a little mopey? sure. i don't run super high mileage weeks, there are so many people who run more than i do that don't have injuries, but at the end of the day this is so much better than it could have been. it's not actually as hard to rest as i thought it would be especially now that it's on a doctor's orders. i'm genuinely glad that something was wrong - this means i can deal with it and move on. i'm going to stick with my plan to not do a damn thing this entire week but next week i'm planning on doing a few arm workouts because i genuinely love working out my upper body.
thanks again for all of your support - you guys are the best. i'm still probably going to ignore the blog world for a bit - i'm too jealous of everyone else's runs and such so don't mind a little absence. i still love you all!

oh man I don't know if I will be able to handle the steroid rage... don't hit me? You could take me out, i am pretty sure of it. thank goodness the toe is not working so I still have an escape plan but boy do I need to be concerned.
ReplyDelete(you know I love you and really am happy for you but I am a firm believer that laughs are needed on the daily especially with a side of good old steroids)
Glad it's not too bad!! You'll be running pain-free again in no time!
ReplyDeleteAwesome care package, those peanut butter cups are deadly!
I'm sooooo excited it came today! I'm glad you like it :) I'm also incredibly proud of you for doing what you need to do, and I know you'll come back in the end roaring and ready to go, love!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's not a stress fracture. I think you're going to be a bodybuilder by the end of this. You don't even have to work out and you still build muscle. That's how it works, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy that entire week off of exercise. I feel like I could actually use one of those right about now.
All that I have to say is...injuries SUCK! But you'll be back at it before you know it! :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear there is no stress fracture! PHEW! hope you heal up quickly are are back at it soon :)
