saturday stats

two things i adore: numbers and alex. as a math teacher i am pretty much all about numbers all the time. i regularly encounter people who assume that i must absolutely love math because i teach it. well the fact is, when i first started teaching i did so in a volunteer program and when i went to interview with my first principal i (frankly) just really wanted a job. when she asked, "do you just love math?" i responded with, "i can love math if you want me to!" in the five years since then, i have actually come to really appreciate math and i do love teaching it. there's something perfectly concrete and perfect about them. and don't even get me started on pi...is there anything more gorgeous? okay, enough nerding out about numbers. the point of this is that when alex started her version of the numbers posts i loved them and i knew that i'd want to try them out. today seems like as good a day as any!

12...hours until i'm on a plane heading to florida to meet up with my dad and two of my brothers for the notre dame bcs championship game/festivities. hurry up hours!

3...hours difference between myself and tex right now. he's on the west coast for a bachelor party and i'm on the east coast. i don't know how anyone could do long distance with this much of a time difference. i feel like i'm ready to go to sleep when he's just getting going for his day. since i go to bed so early that's not really that surprising but it emphasizes it in a bad way. glad he'll be on the east coast today - we'll even be in the same city!

14...approximate number of slices of bread i ate this week. i had a loaf of bread about to be inedible in my fridge (also who knew so many people froze their bread?! not me - but thanks for all the helpful comments yesterday! frozen bread it is from now on) and i tackled the mess out of it this week. lots of toast, tons of sandwiches. goal for today - eat the full tub of spring mix in my fridge.

2...days i'm taking off of school next week for my miami trip. is it kind of irresponsible to miss the first two days after christmas break when the kids are back? probably. but i have no doubt it is incredibly worth it.

5...number of miles i'm running this morning with these girls. though a TON of my blends are coming in to dc for the rock n' roll half in march (which incidentally is on my birthday YAY!) and i can't wait to meet all of them at the finish line, i am extremely pumped to be running this race with my two best friends. jess and i ran our first half marathon together in february of 2010 and that really started my love affair with this distance. richard and i ran the philly half together in november of 2010 and so i'm excited to get the whole group together to run this one. i can't think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than running 13.1 miles with my bffls.

3...average number of "servings" i have in my serving of special k. i have been on a huge special k kick ever since i went home for christmas break because my parent's grocery store didn't stock kashi for some reason (wtf boonies of indiana - get on the bandwagon). i immediately bought 3 varieties of the stuff when i got home from break and i've been working my way through it at an alarming rate. don't get me started on the heaven that is the vanilla almond. BUT something that is bizarre to me is the serving size given that they suggest eating one serving for two meals a day on the "special k diet". to me that is insane - one serving would fill me up for approximately 2 minutes and then i would need to eat again, so i just can't get behind a "diet" that to me would leave me starving most of the day. i can't really get behind any diets, come to think of it, but this one in particular frightens me. i'll just keep eating my ginormous bowls for snacks, thankyouverymuch. {rant over}

2 (again)...pairs of blue leggings i own thanks to pv.body. when i first got my new shipment i thought they were exactly the same as my first shipment, and i was disappointed and was going to send them back. but i'm SUPER lazy about the mail and it turns out they were a different color blue and a different size so that was enough to convince me to keep them. plus i LOVE them and their thickness (HATE super thin leggings) and if they were both black i wouldn't think twice about keeping them so what the heck. i kind of like dressing like a smurf when i run. the above outfit was worn on a run when i was worried about the sun going down while i was out there. i figured i'd combat that all by wearing SO MANY COLORS that no one could miss me even without any sun.

anyone have any fun numbers from their week?

  1. well you may be leaving me yet again but I guess I can handle it because I am feeling you are going to have a freaking blast! I wish we lived closer so we could do those nice 5 milers on a random morning, glad you have friends nearby to make those possible. cereal servings slash most food servings baffle me. where do I begin... cereal oh please hand me the box, whipped cream the bottle is mine, sugary candy do I have to stop when I hit the bottom? you get the picture. HAVE A BLAST

  2. I completely agree about the Special K diet! It's a crazy one. Special K products for 2 meals and then a salad for dinner? No thanks! Haha!

  3. Serving sizes on food products totally annoy me! They are SO unrealistic unless you plan on eating every hour! I never follow the 3/4 cup to 1 cup serving size on cereals. When I eat cereal for breakfast I probably eat somewhere around 2 1/2 cups (I do pick lower calories cereals) so that way I actually stay full until lunch!

  4. hahaha you are an adorable smurf! And yay for having matching leggings haha...looks like blue was the color of choice this month! I completely agree with you about the special k diet thing, too...while i love their vanilla and chocolate (mix the two together and you have a fabulous chocolately vanilla snack ;) ), there is no way I could follow that crazy thing. Have fun with your family and boy tomorrow and monday :)

  6. oooh you're going to have so much fun!! My friend's boyfriend was in Korea for a baseball thing this summer, so they were about 12 hours apart in time distance. Stupid time zones! 3 hours is still pretty brutal!
I totally agree with the special k thing. I remember looking at the "diet" and feeling so confused!
    Have a good weekend!

  7. Totally agree on the cereal thing. The serving sizes are always WAY too small! How do they expect people to survive on a 1/2 cup breakfast??

  8. Honestly, just one serving of cereal depresses me. Who knew 3/4-1 cup of something could look so small and lonely? That's why I believe that 3 servings of cereal is even better. ;) I can tell you agree with me!

  9. A bazillion... The number of throat drops that I've ingested today, but it helps that they're citrus flavored. Medicines are turning more and more into candies! Gummy bear vitamins, heck yes!

Have a blast in Miami :) I can't help but start singing Will Smith...
